Entrepreneurship As A Mom

Entrepreneurship As A Mom

Motherhood and Business

I am a Mom of 7 and I own a new small business. Response I usually hear “Are you crazy?!”

Being a mom was always my first choice. I stayed home after my second trimester with my first born. I worked off and on with a business my husband had and helped him with admin things as well. When my youngest daughter, who is now 6, was almost 1 I went back out into the workforce to work part time. From there on I moved to working full time outside of the home and managing a busy house. In 2018 I began to dream of expanding what I was currently doing for a local coworking brand into a consulting business so that I could help more spaces.

A question often asked is, how do I do it?

This is a hard question to answer. I get up and put my pants on the same way as everyone else, there isn’t anything spectacular about me compared to the next mother. Mothering is challenging, there is NO doubt. I never knew I wanted something outside of being a mom, until the day came. I had a dream that I thought was not attainable – to do something that I am passionate about. Consulting became the opportunity to take my knowledge and passion for the coworking industry to other spaces.

As a mom of 4 girls, I am thankful to show them that as a woman, we can do and be more. They are proud of their mom for getting out there and making a business. It makes me smile to know that I am able to help change their perspective on what is possible for them as young ladies. With so  much noise in society today about what women can and can not do or be, I’m proud to be teaching them that they have a choice for what they do and it does not have to be limited to one direction. Even more so, that just because you are a mom, doesn’t mean that you have to be limited to being just a mom.

The Journey

No matter where you are at in your journey of motherhood, don’t feel that being a mom means that you can’t be a entrepreneur. I’m the first one to tell you, that it is possible to do it both. Dedication and determination are key factors in taking a dream and a plan and bringing it to life. The support of your family is also key – because it will require all to put in a little more effort.

As for my journey, I am enjoying learning the brands of my clients and what they are doing for the entrepreneurial world and enterprise businesses all over the world. This journey has just begun and I am thankful for each and every opportunity to work with the spaces.  Being a mom doesn’t have to stop you from having a business and making an mark on this place we call home. At the end of the day we are all on a journey, what you do with that journey is up to you!
